Conclave 2002 was a rousing success. We had the highest attendance
in three years and there was fun for everyone. Congratulations to
Chapter of the Year Klamath Falls Chapter and to DeMolay of the Year,
Brandon Cole and to all the other award and competition winners!
Note Klamath has the Galloping Gavel. Who is going to K Falls to
claim it? Other winners will be posted to the Oregon DeMolay website
soon. A photo album has already been posted. Take a look at
www.oregondemolay.org and follow the links to find your face in the
Conclave 2002 crowd. If you have photos in digital form, e-mail a
compressed (zip or other) file to exo@oregondemolay.org so we can add
them to the album.

New Service Awards. Two new annual Community Service Awards were
announced at Conclave. They will be awarded based on the impact on
the community and on the name recognition and positive light the
events provide DeMolay. So press releases and pictures are
important!
The Individual Service Award goes to the Master Councilor or Event
Chairman for the single most outstanding community service project.
The Chapter Service Award goes to the Chapter with the best overall
program of community service.

Service Projects Begin. SMC Mike Newgard has kicked the community
service programs into high gear by researching an opportunity to
support the DeMolay International national philanthropy, Special
Olympics! On July 27-28, State Officers and other interested parties
can volunteer at the Special Olympics in Eugene assisting with Golf
activities for their Summer Sports Tournament. They are looking for
score keepers, athlete escorts or helpers with lunches and other
activities. Some positions require golfing knowledge. To signup and
for more information, contact SMC Michael Newgard, Home: 503-653-
9085, Cell: 503-475-2055, E-mail: mnewgard@attbi.com.

Membership is Growing. The membership goal for this term is 85 and
chapters are already working to meet it even though we are less than
a week into the new term. Per SMC Mike: "Membership goal for this
year is 85 members. So far this month we have already initiated
three. We will be setting monthly membership goals to reach 85.
With three members in this month so far, we only need five more
members to meet our goal. So go out and get those members!" Welcome
to our newest members, Andrew Pullen, David Neyenhuis, Shane LaForge
from our newest Chapter, Friendship Chapter. Watch our progress on
the Oregon DeMolay website home page.
